Actor Vikram went without a film featuring him hitting the screens in 2006. His only film 'Bheema' which was talked about through the year seems to have made little or no progress. The actor, who had his last release, 'Maja' in 2005, has decided to move on to three projects in hand in the New Year.

First of them will be directed by Susi Ganesan and produced by Kalaipuli Dhanu. Dhanu took the initiative to bring Susi and Vikram together for his next venture which is yet to be named. Susi won State awards for his earlier movies, including 'Five Star' and 'Virumbugiraen'.

According to latest reports, Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif has agreed to do Susi's film with Vikram. Katrina made her debut with the Telugu film 'Malleshwari' playing opposite Venkatesh. Vijay's first choice for 'Pokiri' was Katrina.

Vikram has also agreed to do two other films - one for producer Mohan Natarajan and the other under the direction of Selvaraghavan to be produced by S. Ramesh Babu of Kanakarathna Movies.

It's Vijay Vs Vishal?

It's Vijay Vs Vishal?
-
++++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++ ++

The focus in the trade for Pongal 2007 is not a clash between the traditional foes - Ajit and Vijay. It is clearly a battle between the Periya-V and Chinna-V, that has caught the attention of the industry.

Yes, the simmering feud between Vijay and Vishal who has taken a leaf from his style book is an open secret in the industry. Vishal has modeled himself on Vijay and also caters to the same mass audience and had two resounding success in Sanda Kozhi and Thimiru. And the big joke in the industry is that Vijay's favourite weapon the Aruvaal has also been stolen by Vishal in all his films!

The trade also went out of their way to promote Vishal. They had their own axe to grind against Vijay as cost of his movies were going up due to his astronomical salary. So many of Vijay's traditional distributors quietly started buying Vishal movies at one third the price of the superstar film and made a fortune.

Last year Vijay's only release Aathi, turned out to be a colossal flop and distributors burnt their fingers. And to rub it in, his father the producer of the film refused to compensate the buyers, which further tarnished the star's image. At the same time Vishal gave the impression that he was hard working and not interested in stardom for the sake of money!

This tactics adopted by his dad G.K Reddy, long in the film business and his brother Vikram paid rich dividends. Thamarabharani producers were asked to market the film at a reasonable price, and all areas were sold out even before the shoot of the film began. Now even if this Pongal film takes an average opening, the distributors will cover their cost.

At the same time, distributors of Pokkiri, has purchased the film at record prices, and the film has to be a super hit for it to recover its cost. Added to that the new ticket rates does not look encouraging for the biggies.

And the big buzz in the industry is that director Hari has gone all out to make Thamarabharani a mass movie and some of the inputs are from Vijay's earlier hits. In the trailer of the film the stunt scenes done by Vishal looks very similar to Vijay's wire-rope technique used in Madurai and Tirupachi!

Taking another leaf from Vijay's guide-book Vishal is marketing his film as a mass family entertainer. And the sheer co-incidence is that both the actors are distributing their Pongal films in Chennai City, as part of their salary!

Ultimately, it will be the paying public who will decide the winner at the box-office. Kollywood is truly democratic, as the King and pretender to his throne battle it out in the theatres this Pongal.

Vijay jealous of Kamal

“I am jealous of Kamal’s histrionics in acting”, Ilaya Thalapathy had remarked during an interview. It is a known fact in Kollywood that Vijay has a lot of appreciation and reverence for his senior artists. When quizzed about his favourite actors, he spontaneously said that Sivaji, Kamal and Vikram are his all time favourites.

Though he has developed his own style in acting, he still feels inadequate in front of these veterans. At a time when technology has not made many inroads into Kollywood, Kamal had flabbergasted the audience donning the role of a dwarf in Aboorva Sagodarargal. Till date, people are still guessing about how he had made a convincing appearance as a dwarf in the movie. In the same vein, Vikram’s soul stirring performance in Kasi has really appealed to Vijay. In the tinsel world, when open appreciation is a rare commodity Vijay’s accolades to his fellow actors comes as a welcome change.

Chiyaan Vikram inaugurated Vidya Sudha, Sri Ramachandra Learning Centre for Children with special needs, on 15 December 2004. Since then, Vikram has been their Goodwill Ambassador.

Vikram took time off from his schedule to be part of the second anniversary celebrations of Vidya Sudha. He was the guest of honor for the event. He spent time with the kids as they cut the cake and the star showed his goodwill by chatting away with the differently abled children.

Stars sparing their time for socially relevant events like this are truly commendable.

Just a couple of days back, he was at a function to launch some special services on mobile phones.

Yesterday, it was for an even more altruistic cause.

Vikram formally inaugurated a 24-hour paediatric trauma care service to cater to children in need of emergency care services, at the Child Trust Hospital in Chennai.

Not only did Vikram inaugurate the service, he also cheered the children admitted in various wards after the inauguration of the trauma care centre.

He spoke about his own experience after being involved in a road accident and he commended the doctors for the initiative.

On the whole Vikram was vivacious and provided liveliness for others too.
